What data is needed to select an industrial water treatment system?

The role of feed-water analysis, capacity and target water quality in system design.

Short answer

Flow rate alone is not enough to select the right treatment system. Feed-water analysis, peak and daily demand, target quality, intended use and site conditions must be assessed together.

Why is analysis required?

Analysis shows which processes are genuinely needed. It helps size equipment correctly, avoid unnecessary investment and anticipate operational requirements before the system reaches the field.

What should you prepare for the first meeting?

You do not need a comprehensive report. Recent analysis results, approximate daily demand, peak flow, intended use and site constraints are a useful starting point. If no analysis exists, discussing proper sampling comes first.

The detail most often missed

Average flow can be misleading. Shift changes, cleaning cycles or seasonal demand may briefly challenge the system. The design should account for those variations.
